Is crossbow hunting bow hunting?

I will have to disagree a bit here. Some think the crossbow should be legal in gun seasons or muzzleloading seasons only. I would argue that the crossbow is closer to compound bows than ML rifles and therefor should be legal in any archery season. The fact that it shoots a fletched bolt, fancy name for short arrow and is tipped with a broadhead, powered from compressed limbs makes them a bow. I remember the same argument when compounds replaced recurves, yes I'm that old, and before that recurves replaced long bows and same argument. I do agree that if legal shoot it! Just for the record, I don't own a crossbow.

scentman, you bring back some past to me, I owned a Ross bow a few years ago. I ended up selling it to a co-worker for his son to hunt with. You don't hear of too many hunters using Ross bows. Actually you're the first here, well actually the second.

I don't run into too many archery hunters in Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania that are against crossbows in archery season. Pa just allowed their use without a DR's slip. It will happen in NY as quite a few states now allow their use in archery season. With today's top bows prices on compounds vs crossbows very little difference between them unless you go with a ten point fully rigged out at $2000.00. Some of us with bad neck/shoulders will have to resort to crossbows if we want to continue archery hunting down the road.
