I like the Ruger line as well. i should mention i am looking or a rifle that does not come in a package. I have a scope, Bushnell Bone Collector DOA Elite.

the ruger m77 and all american or both good rifles. the Howa is a nice one also.remington has lost alot in quality control,never know if you will get a good one or not. Im not into the weatherby hype,dont really care for them. savage makes fine rifles also. As for the browning,I use a browning abolt in 270. the differance in a browning and others is like buying a lincoln or a pickup truck. while they both will get you were you wanna go,how do you wanna get there. if you use a browning you will see fast..................Browning,ruger m77, ruger all american,howa,savage,remington,weatherby. in that order IMHO :thumbup:

I guess my question as to what makes Brownings worth so much more money, is that i have to shoot others then shoot a Browning to see the difference?

I appreciate all of the advice. I have ACademy, Dicks and Cabelas coming soon near me. I think waiting for an sale in one of those places is probably the best bet? Gunbroker seems to be going over retail lately.

I would really like a wood stock, they are beautiful. But i would not write off synthetics just because of looks.

what do you guys think about hinged floorplates vs. detachable boxes?

The more I have been looking around and reading advice, for the price..and the bang for the buck..i am really liking the Ruger M77 all-weather. Anyone use this rifle?

I would make sure that any Ruger M77 you buy is from the upgraded Hawkeye series. They changed the stock design and the trigger when they upgraded the M77 MKII to the Hawkeye. My Son bought a M77 Hawkeye in the shiney satin blue and loves it.

Well guys, thanks for all of the advice...ordered my rifle today. I have been watching Ruger M77 hawkeyes, Mossberg 4x4's, and Savage 114 among others. Found an incredible deal on the Savage 114 American Classic..New..for $200 less than the best places i could find like cheaper than dirt and bud;'s gun shop.

$495 shipped. I think that is a sweet deal..what do you think?

It should look nice with my Bone Collector Elite Scope. Cant wait to get it, sight it in, and get ready for fall!

It is a wood stock in .270 Win.

I have heard to try all kinds of different weight and manufacturer ammo to see what the rifle likes best...thanks again.

Thanks for the tip Karl. I am in South Carolina, so the weather isn't really ever bad here, except in summer. I am from Wisconsin though, so I know how long the winters can be. Go Packers!
