So, here we are again. Players and owners cannot solve the 9 BILLION DOLLAR question as to what should we make now??? The owners?? Well they have to worry somewhat about fans showing up at the stadiums. The players??, well they simply are supposed to show up and play, collecting the $$$$$ they agreed to collect.

The Comissioner??, well he makes $10,000,000. a year. THAT'S TEN MILLION!!! So some of you might be able to turn that into a number you can relate to; that is over $192,000. a week. You all may laugh (no problem!), I've never made $192,000. in two years ever, combined!!

I happen to be a retired military pilot, who works in a 2nd career and also own 5 houses as investments. Nope, not even close to well off, but I figure I'll eat dinner every day next week and, even the thought of $192,000 earned in a year makes me salivate here & now!!

My meager thoughts on the subject? No one demanded the players sign their contracts and play in the NFL. Perhaps they have another, better skill that they could sell elsewhere?? Oh, maybe some did not choose to finish the education that someone was willing to give them in trade for their playing football??

Do the players, because of their high $$$$$$$$$$$$ believe they are more important as the coach or even the owner?? Well, when I was young, I recall players calling their coaches, Mr Lombardi or Mr Landry. But, again, remember I'm pretty old (not even near retirement age!!!!)

Yes, you have seen & read my contempt for the players here. They had options. They chose to put all their eggs in the NFL basket, and I, for ONE, don't see just how they are suffering.

sounds like you're right to me. the deal is its BIIIIIIIG money. not just the salaries but all of it from hotels to bars to the tv ads and the $$ that generates. the players think without them this would collapse and they should get a piece of it.

you got to remember they only have what 8 years to make their multi millions and retire all set.

as long as the fans are willing to pay to watch sports the pay will go up for owners and players and only the fans suffer. keep paying and paying until, joe the plumber can't afford to take his family to a game (now). I would cap salaries and then tap sports for some hefty tax money for schools, seems like there is a lot of it to be shared.

I was in the OCAW for 22 years and supported the union as a Vice president. Now I'm on the other side of the table and see both sides. i said don't get me started but you did. so here's the problem with unions its a long list so....

1 they protect slackers
2 they don't allow the cream to rise to the top. meaning if someone is very very good at their job the union holds them to the standard set by the union.
3 if you pay a guy 10 and hr you need to figure thecost of a 10 an hr employee at 20 just to break even after all costs are figured in and if he is in the union 40.
4 this very thing drives up the cost of EVERYTHING which is a major reason co move over seas or they raise the cost of goods and services on the other 88% of the pop thats not union. this includes the elderly, the very poor, and those just getting by.
5 unions don't allow pay what the guy is worth.
6 public unions!? that money comes from somewhere.....tax payers that work till they fall over dead and pay for the union guy to retire after 25 years with health care and full pay till he dies.
7 12% of the population are in unions and they hold more power than the other 88%
8 most times its last in first out as with teachers keeping the highest payed teachers on the pay roll and very likely tossing a young brilliant teacher out of a job. i saw a teacher say her desk was closed during the class day. she is protected by the union
9unions are there for their own well being now, not like back in the day when they were there to protect the worker. beside any one with a set will protect themslevs and not trade one master for another.
10 they take labor money and give it to the dems. thats is like the money given to the rep by the banking industry and pharmaceuticals combined. dems by the way that want to take guns end hunting plus other things.
11 they in return for their donations get special perks from the dems once in power. example is big labor is except from this unconstitutional health care law.
12 and there is other stuff that po's me the list is ends less and for every plus i can give you a negative.
13unions and the whole idea of them is borderline communist.

a guy total me to look at it this way. a big company set out a plate of 12 cookies on a table with himself, a union guy, and a non union guy at the table. the big company took eleven and told the non union guy watch out for the union guy he wants your cookie. thats the way my buddy looked at it.

i told him the same story but the change was the big company guy said i'm taking eleven cookies and if you guys don't like it go bake your own cookies. what is wrong with that

the point being that union worker thinks somehow they are owed more than whatever they are getting and the non union guy is working his rear to surpass all limitations asking for no special favors. no one to fight for him, but to let his skills and worth speak for itself and place his own demands.

i am an local emt-i and firefighter or was (call company) come do my job does your skill set meet the pay grade? i'll throw garbage heck i'll pull a sewer pump come play in the septic with me. your 38000 is for what 20? 25 years? then its 38000 for the rest of your life? meaning 38 for 25 plus that again for 50 more not to mention during that 50 tax payers are still paying yet another union worker so if you break it all down its 3 times for 25 years than 6 times for 25 more, all on the taxpayers shoulders? by the way after you retire you get hit with the new round of retires and if you live long enough, which you should hopefully, you'll get the next round as well. how is it payed for? taxes go up. being on a set income are you sure thats what you want? the cost even though you are only getting it once the cost trips for you cause you aren't working any more and then there is your replacement.

yup i gross ok but it took me 25 years to get there and when i need a new hip, not far from now, and the disks in my back fixed, needed soon, im not asking anyone to do it for me.

unions are parasites, the members are most of the time great people that work hard but don't see that for every thing the unions SAYS they are giving them they are taking the equal or even more in the big/long term picture.
that means at 38 a year the cost is 3 times that a year by the time the balance sheet comes to an end. how is this sustainable? its not, and thats what we are seeing. states just can't afford to justify the cost of 3 years for only a years labor

didn't say you were pro obama. i said the union was. do the math after that. keep supporting the union and you'll keep supporting obama whether you like it or not and that is yet another example of why unions are the ruination of this country.

not to mention i did take a job at wally. whats wrong with that? got a problem with a guy working what he has to? besides they got it right. if you work your rear off and try to progress there is room for you to do so. in other words the cream can rise to the top. you want to be a tennis pro, you can at wal-mart. airplane pilots work for wal-mart

where does it say anywhere that a person only has to work for 25 years and get payed for the rest of their life? how does anyone even make this cost effective? it can't work and we are seeing that now across the country.
