You did'nt say if it was a new born or not ? If it was new born ,deer fawns don't have any sent of there own for a short time when there first born . The Doe will stay away from it (but close by) and go to it only to nurse. You my have just got inbetween them ? I'm sure the Doe was close by . Or you may be right and the mother met with an accident . I had one run up to me during the firearms season one year . I was in an area where the day before a big Doe was shot it must of been ma ma .
