The deer taste better in the lower 2/3 of the state because they are crop fed, rather than living in swamps and pine forests with no corn or soybeans.
I just wish the whole State was approved for rifle
Unfortunately just like my State of MN they carve up the State into halves where it is shotgun only in the lower half. MN does the same thing, I would rather hunt with a rifle than a shotgun with slugs/or a handgun.

No wonder I like living down south! At least we can use just about anything down here to shoot deer with - rifle, bow, black powder, etc. Each has its own particular set of dates with rifle being the first Sat in Nov thru the first Sun in Jan. Some counties will even have "extended" seasons, adding another two weeks in Jan depending on the recorded number of deer kills recorded during the regular season.
Besides being adverse to weather below 30 degrees, y'all have that stuff called "snow" up there. It's typically below the 30 degree mark when that white flaky stuff falls from the sky. :wacko:

We only have a few small shotgun areas. Other than those few areas, during the gun season you can use what ever firearm you want (rifle, shotgun, muzzleloader, or handgun). Following the firearm season is a muzzleloader only season. With the second half of the archery season following that.
Ok, I guess I am wrong again...
I thought below I94 in WI was shotgun only, I stand corrected. When I was hunting in WI we were always in the Northern part. Unfortunately we here in MN do have to put up with the shotgun/handgun rule for the lower half of the State. Rifled barreled shotguns are very accurate I just prefer a regular rifle.

the only scary thing is that the cwd line is two miles south of where i hunt in columbia county wisconsin. i live in a small town of 308 called Friesland
We Deer hunt in the St Crois National Forest
We are actually parking in Danburry WI and walking North accross the river into MN to Deen hunt in the St Crois National Forest. Is the CWD reported around the Danburry area? If it is I would think it would also be a worry for us just over the river.

I am in northern WI! It can be a bit challenging as deer numbers are a bit lower than farther south. Still in the right spot you can see a lot of deer. We are in an area of mixed agriculture and forests - the deer are very good to eat as a result - not quite as good as So. WI, but much better than the swamps of MN where I hunted a few years.

if you stop an any place that sells licenes and there will be regulation books and the sections that hav cwd. i think that should work

Yep! I'm from Wisconsin. I hunt in Jackson county.
