Not many shoot a 220gr in their 30-06s

Ok so the recoil force is the same between the 358 with stand weight loads and a very heavy bullet in the 30-06. I would say that 99% of all 30-06 shooters never go higher than 180gr. At that 180gr bullet weight I would bet that the 30-06 kicks less. Many shooters find the 30-06 with the 180gr all the fun they want in the recoil department. I have killed Elk with the 180gr in a Nosler Partition and would have been willing to go after anything this side of Brown Bear with the load. In an emergency I know the 30-06 shooting 180s would work on a big Brown Bear, but those wonderful animals are what Magnums are for in my opinion.

Wrong again....Nuts...

Let's see here the 225gr in a 358 kicks the same as my favorite 30-06 load with 165gr bullets. The 358 with the 225gr gets my vote as a fine choice for Deer/Elk. It comes in nice short actions and should hit very hard. Thanks for education on the 358 win, to bad it never made it as a big commercial success. I guess the writers were to busy teaching everyone they needed a magnum to hunt our animals.

Ok here is a question- .358 Win or .338 Federal????

The Federal cartridge 338 Fed does have some buzz going at this time and is available in short action bolt rifles. I know Ruger M77 Hawkeyes and Sako/Tikka rifles are available in 338 Fed. Does anyone have actual experience with both cartridges that they can share their preference between them? What I read sounds very good but they do say Federal loaded them to where recoil is a factor.
