I just found out that we got drawn into our favorite little spot in Colorado for elk this year! I am super excited as it seems like every time at least one big elk comes home from this spot. We will be packing in on horseback again, and hopefully have better luck at avoiding snow on this earlier season hunt. I am still trying to get my first elk, and this seems like it should be the best opportunity yet...plus I just love the backwoods camping in the mountains.

Great news flex. I hope you have a heck of a great time out there. Oh, and don't forget to bring home the monster elk.
That sounds great, Flexi! I'm in the drawing for a "hot" spot here in Montana, but have to wait another month or so for the drawing results. Hey, when you see that big bull, remember - no head shots! LOL
Congratulations Flex and Good luck to you too OneHorse, I hope you both score but please remember to take pics for us guys back here... :w00t:
I too put in for a very limited draw area in Colorado, so here's to everyone pulling a permit:pickle:If Idon't draw a permit then I get a bonus point for next year.
Thats cool flex.. I would enjoy packing it in on horse and going hunting for a few days.. Im sure it puts a great perspective on things.. Camping in the woods, hunting for something to eat, and using horses for tranport has got to be sweet..

No doubt...good luck on your drawing there in Montana.

I guess I need to start up my "prep for the mountains" workout schedule again. I really hate those bleachers, but it does help out on those hikes in the woods. It has always been hard for me to cope with the ~6,000ft elevation difference between where I live, and the places we hunt over there, and it will take me a few months to get into good enough shape to be able to out run my hunting buddy.

Well, good luck everyone with your draw in hunts...hopefully they will all pay off for us some day.
"Out run your hunting buddy" Now that's funny:biggrin:

That sounds like it will be a great hunt, Congrats.
congrats hope it goes great .one of these days im going to make the trip:yes:
