hey guys iam looking at buying a 30.06 or a 270 i will be using it for deer elk and bear and just wondering what gun will have better range and accuracy for what i need it for your help and input is greatly appreciated??

Both of those calibers are adequate for the animals that you have mentioned. Ammo for both is readily available, and both have been around a long time getting the job done. The '06 will kick a harder if you use the heavier loads (180 grains or more). The 130 grain bullet out of the .270 is a real deer killer, and the 150 grain will spoil the day for any elk or bear out there. If you hit any of those animals in the same RIGHT place with either of those calibers, they won't know the difference because they will be very dead! This is really a toss up. The good news is that with just these two to choose from, you just can't go wrong, period. (50 years of hunting and shooting experience with both those calibers are behind this response.)

the 06 and mainly because of the ammo selections. elk can be a long shot and a heavier bullet will carry more energy farther. 06 is what 220 gr top end? don't know what the top end on the 270 is. but thats just my opinion.

I think commerical ammo is 150gr tops for the 270, I like both the 30-06 and the 270. Like ronn said a bit more gr weight range for the 06. I think the 270 has a slight accuracy advantage but not enough to make any real difference. Can't go wrong on either cal. I like 150 gr in the 06, and 140 gr in the 270.

I would say the .270 is a perfect choice but then again comparing it with a .30-06 makes for a tough decision
but this is what I will say about the choices, The .270 is Extremely accurate and has a great hunting reputation but doesn't have many choices with Ammunition, the .30-06 has a great reputation too but the .30-06 has a much wider selection for ammunition. Whichever you choose be sure to make it a Bolt Action that way you'll be super happy with whichever one you get.

I have both a .270 and a .30-06 but because of the difference in accuracy I always (out of habit) grab my .270 to hunt with.

I've mostly used my 30-30 and occasionally a 30.06 semi auto for twenty-four years. For the last two years I've used my .270 bolt action in a 150 grain soft point and have been extremely impressed with it. Here in North East Georgia long shots at deer are far and few in between and the 30.06 is really overkill unless your are fortunate enough to have a power line or gas line running through your property to sit on. Next year I am planning to use the 30-30 some with the new ballistic tip that is available. Has anyone used the Marlin lever action .308 ballistic tip they came out with last year?

i was thinking of gettting the 270 actually becauase ill hunt deer more then elk with it cause down here in manitoba elk is on a draw period and u ussuallly only get drawn every 2-4 years but i go for deer alot and bear are always in close range i was just curious on everyone opinions my uncle uses a 270 and has shot deer up to 450 yards with it he says wow wat a hard decsion between the 2 this will be some thinking before i buy heck maybe ill buy both lol then u cant go wrong no matter what
