These were pretty popular in their day, a few were called buggy rifles. The thought was with the nipple located under the rifle they would fire more reliable with regard to rain/moisture ect.
pretty simple looking rifles. I've never had an interest in owning one. Looked more like a lady's rifle design to me, or at least a far cry from an Hawken! :wink:
