First you will need to figure out what type of stand you want to use as each has plus and minus qualities. You need to know your abilities, strength, mobility, fear of heights ect. Ladder stands are probably the most easy to set up and maybe the safest ones, climbers the most comfortable to sit in but require some extra strength to use. Fixed stands require some sort of steps, ladder, sticks to get up and into. Price is also a factor as good climbers maybe the most expensive followed by ladders then fixed stands. Give us some additional specific questions and we'll see what we can provide.

GF, the only thing I can say is I try to post my best thoughts and let the person asking the question make their decision based on all our respective inputs. My opinion, ladder stands are by far the most simple/fastest stand to put up and the safest stand to use. I have used climbers, fixed, sticks , home built ect, you name it and I've had it in a tree. Ladders are the way to go for me, age and physical condition factored in. The other reason ladders have to be used is I hunt big pines and hemlock trees that a climber wouldn't get 4' off the ground in due to the limbs. You are right on the mark about using a safety harness though.
