I was just wondering how high the average hunter places his tree stand. I was hunting out of a 16 ft ladder stand and the deer seemed to know i was there. I have since raised it to 35 feet. I havent hunted it yet but hope to go this evening.
well i hunt a 16 ft tree stand... its not more or less how high u are... it depends on the area your hunting on alot... but make sure u cover your scent very well... if you do that and your quite your chances of not being noticed will be greater... also if u can wear camo im such a stron beleiver in wearing camo if i can while hunting... it helps alot... i had 3 doe come within 20 yards of me and they never knew i was there.
I like to get real high if Im gun hunting but bow hunting not so much. I like to stay around 20 to 25 ft bow hunting. Also depends on the tree and the wind. You get 35 ft in a tree with a strong wind you may have a 2-4 ft sway in your tree. That could make it very difficult to make a shot with any distance.
You guys are right. It comes down to using common sense and reading the existing conditions at the time of your hunt. More than once I have adjusted my height do to weather or finding out come light that my kill zones are impaired.:sadbanana:
