went out today for a few hrs didnt see much then a small game guy came thru down low no biggie then some knucklehead comes crashing thru the woods stops about a 100yrds away and starts building a ground blind.the gun season starts 3 days from now.I whistled at him ,nothing he just kept making noise .i packed up and left.i didnt want to get into it with him after all its public land. What irks me is any real hunter knows its too late in the season to start making blinds and crashing blindly thru the woods.:crazy:I drove to check on another spot and saw a flock of bearded turkeys crossing the road that got the blood pumping .im gonna go back tomorrow and try to find them.maybe ill leave the guy a present in his blind:surprised:

LOL the present should stink..... nah thats not kool, its times like this that we the real hunters stand out... we know there is not a deer in the woods that will come to that area if his making himself none to the whole woods this late in the season.

Sounds to me like he has already done enough to the area that he would be lucky just to see a button buck. If you really wanted to help him though a cheese grater and Irish Spring should freshen things up a bit. You can never be too clean.

I guess I'm lucky enough to hunt private land. Heck the landowners won't even let their grandkids hunt the property without asking my permission. I would leave this guy a big bottle of old spice emptied all over his blind. Good luck.

My DH was in a tree stand near the edge of our property, close to dusk. The guy who owns the adjoining land came crashing through the woods with his rifle, making all kinds of racket. DH gave it up and came on back to the house after that. He was pretty hacked off.

I suggested he go chat with the guy and maybe give him some hunting pointers, like don't go crashing around the woods during prime hunting hours! He hasn't yet, but maybe before the next deer season he will. Or one of the other hunters in the area might. The guy's a new hunter and doesn't have any idea how to go about it.

Sounds like the guy building the blind is clueless. Leaving something smelly or repellent to deer won't teach him anything. He wouldn't understand why, if he even picked up that something was done. He'll just do the same thing again later. But if somebody takes a minute and just talks to the guy, calmly explains why it's not good time to do this...maybe he'll listen and not do it again.

Maybe some wall to wall counseling would help him out a bit. If you leave him a gift and he finds it, chances are he is just going to move in on someone else. The joys of land ownership/lease are abundant. At least he was not the only turkey in the woods.

My thinking is that if you mess up the blind he made, he'll just crash around and make another, and mess up somebody else's hunt, and probably remain clueless. Sort of like a puppy or a little kid. They don't make the connection between the offense and the punishment, if it's not spelled out clearly. He'd just know his site was messed up, with no idea why.

Maybe nobody's ever taught him hunting etiquette. Ignorance can be cured! Mean or stupid, usually not. Treat the guy as ignorant unless he proves otherwise. Could be more effective, maybe make one less idiot blundering around next year.
