I got this from a previous post. What guns will you be using this year? My guess many will have several in use for various game. I'm thinking the average number used will be 3-4 per hunter.

I have no problem w/ someone collecting them
& I don't have to Justify shooting them I just Enjoy shoot I was just responding to HuntNH's comment
I personally can not afford to just collect guns so my purchases are practical & I do use them all in one way or another
Well I do collect them much like a stamp collector. It isn't necessary for me to justify shooting them. I just enjoy having them. However, several do get used every year and I like to alternate every other year or so. I have a couple of favorites too.
+1 !! I totally enjoy owning and using a number of guns (mostly big game rifles). I do a similar thing, spending the off season deciding which 10 or 15 need to be readied for the upcoming seasons. Of course I have my favorites, but I like them all, or I wouldn't have purchased them
Anyone else catch themselves doing this...

When I was shooting skeet on a league about 20 years ago, I decided it would be fun to use my original shotgun, an Ithaca M37 12ga. Lucky it was just a couple of practice rounds but my `friends` were crying as I kept forgetting to work the slide action. My normal shotgun is an over/under Remington 3200. I decided to switch back to my Remington and then for the next round I kept trying to work the fixed forearm on the 3200. Yes my `buddies` again had some fun.. I think it is great to use your other firearms, just make sure you take time to practice again with you primary go to ones.

If you aren't going to use them
Then why have em?
I personally don't collect guns just to show off I buy guns that I use for hunting or just love to shoot
all my guns get used all year long & where I am hunting will determine what gun I am using
the simple answer to this question, is i am porbably over obsessed with not hunting with a gun unless i can drive tacks with it. and just before the season opens i got to the range to make shure i am dead on with them. doing this with to many guns would be verry time consuming and costly in ammo. i use the .270 when i am in an area were i can realy rech out and touch somthing. i use the 12 ga when i am hunting in a shotgun only area, or in a dence area were the reality of a long range shot is slim to non. and the .44 mag always is on my hip when hunting. if i go out with a bow this year, and have a real close range shot on a buck, and want to save the bow tag for another time incase the next deer i see is a doe, then i will use the .44 mag. I think that covers my bases realy well, so i see no point in adding another rifel into the mix. i am not a collecter, all my guns serve a purpose. if i see a void that needs to be filled i will go out and buy a gun that fills that void. but untill i feel there is a void i prefure to keep it to the keep it simple method. yes i just might have OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) but i feel i owe it to my game to ensure a clean kill, and keeping it simple is just one of the ways i do just that.

HuntNH I totally agree & as I stated earlier I am in the same boat & makes sense now but the topic was this years use I do not just hunt deer & turkey I hunt other animals also like coyote my .270 is not a good round for them if you want a good pelt
I also hunt small game so out comes the .22
also feel the need to keep up on my personal defense weapons more so then my hunting guns so there my point of using 4-5 guns
i realy want to hunt cyotte. have tryed it a few times with no sucsess. if you have sucsess with that and ever want to go with someone i would be more than game for that. (maybe id use my new AR for that). or just stick to the .270. i have allso wanted to hunt phesant, but would use my same 12 ga. for that. it has two barrels so i would just switch from the slug barrel to the smooth boar for that. small game i have never realy got into, but with my son being old enugh to hunt now but not realy patshont engh for deer, i may be doing some small game stuff. my son has a .22 he can use for that.
opps, I guess I should start selling some fishing lures. I couldn't see having 1/2 doz lures and 2 rods to do all my fishing. I can understand some of the points you guys are making about having only what you need/shoot, makes a lot of common sense. Maybe I'm excessive a bit. Some people collect paintings, coins, cars, decoys. I just picked guns maybe they picked me. Hopefully, we all have something we enjoy in life and if collecting is one of them then great. I would love to do picking like the TV show with Frank and Mike! That's another story and I got way off topic sorry.

And it's your belief that because you don't own as many, or use as many guns that you do better with yours?? That's awfully forward, I'd say....

AR is great for Coyote I will keep ya in mind when I start up again
Sorry for the double post
HM I wish I had the Cashola to collect them like I said no issue here.
two kids & all their activities I have no extra cash
but I do love shooting whether it be rifles, handguns, bows or what have you so even if I did have a big collection they would have to be in shooting condition

thats not what i was saying at all. i was saying that if i got my bases covered well with the three guns i had mentioned i dont feel the need to use any otheres for hunting, and that it alows me to focus all my pre season range time on just three instead of many. and just cause i only hunt with thoughs 3 dont mean that i only own thoughs 3 or that i think owning a limmited amount makes me snobby about how i shoot. assuming that from my post is awfully forward of you id say.:yucky:

thanks. would be realy great to learn it form someone with expeiance in hunting that particulare game.

thats not what i was saying at all. obviasly you need many diferent types of lures, because one day your spinners might work great, and not so great the next, but that day a poper will bring em in. a good deer round will do its job every time, wether its a .270, 30-06, 7mm-08, 300win, 30-30 (you get the point) so i dont see why i would want to use the .270 one day, and a 300-06 the next, just more guns i have to worry about being acurate with.
Old adage `beware of the man with one gun`

This is one of the old sayings that I think does make alot of sense. If you only shoot one rifle, a person is going to get alot better with it. One of the big selling points of the 30-06s that I like is they work on just about everything. There are better calibers for certain animals but my 06 will work on anything that doesn't need atleast a 375 H&H. Having said that I sure love having more than one rifle, one carry pistol, and one shotgun. The extra ones are a luxury that I am lucky to be able to have.

Sometimes collecting isn't all that expensive, I've bought and sold over the years sometimes a healthy profit allows another 1-2 to be bought. I will never say I need them just really enjoy having them. Sorry for the confusion nh, I too took the post wrong. I get it now. For years I thought if I got down to say 8 guns would that fill all my needs/wants? probably so. I would want them to be high quality and some would be out of my price bracket today. One time I bought a M1 carbine for 60.00 and sold it for 440.00 about 4 months later. that' carbine contributed to my Hawken project. Sometimes you just get lucky and the timing is right. Another time a guy came to my door wanting cash for a Browning semi auto breakdown 22 scoped, asking $150.00, that one is still in the safe today. He needed card money. I wish more deals came by like that. Money is tight these days for everyone so it is important to really consider your needs and uses for new gun purchases, not to mention ammo prices. So if your a 2 gun or a 100 gun person enjoy the heck out of them.

Your last line is perfect that is what counts is you enjoy them & just be glad that we can
