HOPE EVERYONE HAS HAD SOME GOOD BREAKS GO THEIR WAY LIIKE MINE SEEMS TO HAVE THIS YEAR SO FAR. I AM IN NORTH CENTRAL OKLAHOMA. JUST A COUPLE WEEKS AGO WERE WERE IN FULL RUT, BUCKS ACTIVALEY CHASING DOES DURING THE DAY, ETC. ETC. TO BASICALLY PRESEASON DAILY HABITS. THE DOES ARE RETURING TO CORN FEEDERS, BUCKS ARE STILL ACTIVELY RUBBING TREES AND SOMEWHAT ACTIVE IN THE DAY WHEN THE RIGHT CALL GETS STUCK IN THEIR EAR... I HAVE READ IN FIELD AND STREAM TO SET UP ON THE FOOD SOURCES FOR DEER WILL BE REACHIN TO THE FOOD AFTER THE STRESS OF THE MATING PROCESS TO GET STRENGTH BACK. GIVING THIS OBSORVATION, AND THE 2ND smaller RUT DUE ANYTIME. DO I SET UP NEAR FOOD SOURCES? DO I SET UP IN THE WOODS BEFORE THE FOOD SOURCES. OR DO I GROUND BLIND ON A RIDGE WHERE I KNOW THEY BED MOST NIGHTS. JUST A LITTLE HELP ON THEORIES AND EXPERIENCES WOULD BE GREAT.

okbh, It's been my experience that bucks will be looking for a food source during the 3-4 weeks in between the two main ruts. The first rut is the main one, most bucks have all the want/need to satisfy themselves. The second rut is mainly important in those areas where there's alot of does. If your area has only a few does, I would then concentrate on the feeding areas. However, if your hunting area has alot of does, I would stick to trails and wooded areas. I hope this helps!
In or near would depend on the food source being hunted. Corn-you will want to be set up on the downwind side of along the field edge. Acorns-you will want to be as close as possible to. Whichever source they are using most is where youll want to be. Late season temps will have the deer looking for high carbohydrate foods such as corn if available.
