I have never done a food plot in the spring so I don't know what to tell you there. Ours are always fall plots and we put in winter wheat, Three types of clover, Buck forage oats and occasionaly some rape.
If you have easy access to it I would mow it real low, till it up, and plant what ever it is you would like to plant. Pretty much like making a garden. Just for wildlife instead of for yourself. I would be afraid the weed and feed might end up killing what ever it was that you were trying to plant.
