Spoonbill almost time

It's almost time for the spoonbill. I look forward to it every year. Good eating and man what a fight. We usualy get a big headed carp or two as well and although I look at big heads as a trash fish and do not eat they are probably hands down one of the toughest fighting fresh water fish swimming in the USA States waters.

good luck .the next round of fish for here is spring crappie and then trout
We used to go after the carp with DOUGH balls and flyrods. A 25lb carp on a flyrod is a heck of a fight.
flys for carp

received a set of carp flys for christmas. Will be trying them out also real soon. Will probably follow on-the-fly so he can help me if I hook a big head.
Trout opens in six weeks here. still plenty of ice though lot of ice fishing happening.
The spring trout run is almost upon us here in WNY. I'm looking forward to getting some serious pics for you all.
Well, I'll add another species to this thread...I caught two largemouth yesterday over 5lb. and several others in the 2-5 range. It was an awesome first fishing trip for the year.

There is legal spoonbill snagging in the arkansas river here in oklahoma, but I have never gotten one. I have snagged some gar before, and they were a good fight. Hey, on the fly...how do you rig for snagging them, and how do you go about finding them? They are in the river right?
well Flexi we rig with two 1.5 or 2 oz shad jigs tied about 12 to 16 inches apart this works well and also catches other fish like strippers as well. we do alot from the banks but in a boat just pay close attention to your depth finder for schools of fish. spoons will be in the and around the rocky areas of the river with strong current. the rock are the areas they spawn and spawnig is usualy in progress during the snagging seasson. ( at lest it is here in KY)
