Like to hear from my fellow hunters down here in the south about what and how they do with food plots...lime (how often) what to plant, what the deer like best.:wallbash:

I bought seed for planting this weekend 10/3/2009, 2 bags of elbon rye, 3 bags buck forage oats, 1 bag Imperial chicory plus, and 3 lbs of clover chickasaw lidino blend. Will be puting 1 pound of clover seed on 3 of the plots with the oats and rye blend. Split 5000 lbs of lime between 4 plots early this yr will be liming the other 4 plots next yr have them on a 3 yr rotation, use dolimite lime in the bulk. I will be puting out about 50 lbs of 13-13-13 fertilize on each plot. I plant 8 plots rangering from 1/8----1/2 acre.Disked plots early after liming and then went back today and redisk them.

RE: Taken the fear senators in even blue seatts must have to not listen anymore I think it's worth it. Bernanke has been one of the worst ever, a gambling man with a god complex. If I just bet on 13 one more time I'd be sure to win mentality by growing the balance sheet like crazy with no sustainable improvement. What the US need is a FED chairman with a proven record to balance budgets and who not favours Wall Street. A tough man with integrity. A man like Andrew Coumo but with economic skills. The clover does not start making nitorgen untill it gets established and by then the oats and rye will have used most of the nitorgen up from the fertilizer. I like the clover for late season and for more of a summer plot. That is why I use a lidino type clover. Yes my plot work keeps deer around and they seem to be health. My only problem is that our soil is really poor all over and that makes it hard to grow the horns that I would like to have. We are doing better with the age thing down here and getting better horns than in the past. Most hunters are seeing what age will do along with yr round plots and feeding.

South MS plots
The rain let me get finished planting on the 7th of Oct. Had to work them in between rains. I added one small bag of "ALFA-RACK" from Whitetail Institute into my seed mix. I did keep this serperated from my other seed to see how it is going to do as a long term plot.

aint really no farmer but have found out that in planting a food plot that the young foliage or knew growth seems to work a lot better than an established plot of say fescue. I hunt over a 1/3 acre of established orchid grass, fescue and ladino clover with a fall planting of young red top clover. World of difference in the two plots.
