The tinkerer that i am, ive been thinking about adding some vent ports on my Optima's forearm. I plan on getting the stock dipped hopefully this summer in Burlwood pattern and i thought the Vents would look pretty cool and maybe even help cool it down a bit faster. I honestly think if i get the stock dipped in burl, it will end up being strictly a shooting range gun and i'll just get another optima for hunting LOL.

I dont know, what do you guys think about the ports? Real function or just another bore butter poop product?

i think they do serve a purpose on rifles but for most folks probably not needed on a ml. you on the other hand go to shoot and shoot you do so it would probably help you. hard to picture what i would look like after dipping

It looks good, I just wonder if you would get that much valuable range cooling time on a ml by adding small vents compared to the rest of the barrel's surface for heat discipation(spell). Only another expirment will tell.

Its always worth a shot at seeing. If nothing helps, i got some holes in the fore end lol. We'll see though, i have some other patterns in my mind that i need help transferring onto paper and then onto the duct tape i use to get an ideer.

Or just shoot in the winter. I did have this idea about liquid cooling using the old log splitter's hydralic pump. :bag:

Just buy one of those new traditions Vortek muzzleloaders and end the need for tampering with rifles or stocks. :w00t::w00t::w00t:

actually the last traditions i had, i had to do mega stock material removal in order to get the pressure off the barrel at the front of the stock. Shot awesome after that.

I know you don't want to hear this. The Vortek UL I had shot better than the two Optimas and Accura V2 I had. You should have bought it when I offered it to you. It shot BH 209 perfect with no mods too.

However, none of them can out shoot my Omega.

i think it would be impossible to out shoot my current set up LOL. Heck my $180 Wolf puts 3 aerolites into a 1/4" group @ 100.

Maybe, but I did say it out shot the CVA's I had.

So, you can say I must be a lousy shot, but keep in mind I was the one shooting the Vortek too.

FG, when you are shooting off a fancy rest that all you do is pull trigger and some do that for you it's really not shooting, it's more machine test firing. I would venture to say if I can shoot 1" groups off a rolled up piece of carpet then I bet most all in-lines will do what your CVA's can do. I'd be willing to take that bet. I can get bullets that touch holes without a fancy rest so lets not brag those CVA's up too much here.

I don't shoot off a bench at all. I always shoot the way I hunt. Off my knee.

Yeah, FG i'm shaky. I just time my shakes when they pass over the target.

Huntingman, my brother in law thought the same thing and even said, when i put 3 shots into the same hole, you have to go onto the forums and tell them that i am a better shot than you!!!! Well he took his 3 shots and after he had a nice 8" string and i had a 5 shot group that measured 1 1/4" with 4 shots measuring 7/8" he learned pretty well its not just the fancy rest that helps me with my shooting.

oh hes got the breathing and squeezing down right, i watched closely on that, but what he did was squeeze the wrist of the stock and pull down hard on it, putting unnatural pressure throughout the rifle. Theres an interesting way i learned how to shoot off this rest but its kind of hard to explain in text.

FG, we'll just disagree with this one. I know what Muley is saying about all that goes into proper shooting and all, I'm just saying that most barrels are way more accurate than the person behind them. The fancy rest makes most people way better down range than hunters would care about. To most 1" at 100 yds would be great. Put that rifle in a hold down rest with aux trigger firing system and suddenly the rifle is shooting 1/2" groups.
