Anyone out there like to fish small streams for browns? What works for you? where you from?

we dont have browns around here but there are a few spots they do stock but if cought have to be releast. but we do fly fish the smaller river streams for rainbows though. do prety good with popeye gigs and some times with some bead heads. I'm in KY and live right at a lake with the tail waters stocked a few times a year. although the rainbows dont seem to stay right around the dam, they mostly move down stream to shallower water with riffs between deep pockets.

My brother lives on a great little stream, only about 10' wide. It's very brushy so fly fishing is out. I have the best luck with 3'' rainbow trout Rapalas, the floaters. 12-14'' is the norm, but 14-18'' is not uncommon. Once in a while I'll get a 20'' one. This might not sound that big compared to fish from bigger rivers or Lake Michigan, but it's a riot battling one in a small stream with lite tackle. And because of the brush and all the curves in the creek, your usually only flipping your lure ahead 20' or less and you can almost always see the fish when they hit.

I catch em in colorado in very small streams with worms. Found a good spot a couple years back with a bunch of em.

We get those big ole lake fish coming into the streams here from Lake Erie. Steelhead, Browns, Rainbows.

Whenever I use worms or crawlers, all I catch is chubs.

I have been a Trout fisherman for years. It depends on what type of fishing you like to do. I like to fish with a spinning reel and fish spinners and the best that I have found are Roster Tail and Panther Martians. I fish with a 6 to 6 1/2 foot rod with 6 to 8 pound test depending on the size of the stream and what size of spinner I use. If you want to go after some big trout get the Rapalas out. Cold water use the sinking ones warmer wheather use floaters. Silver and black on sunny or clear water and black and gold on cloudy skys and water. Or use others to match the bait fish.
And when fishing with them you have to work them make them dance is what I call it. Cast out and while you are reeling it back in twich the rod so the lure gets good side to side action and do it 3 or 4 times and stop and go. Make it look like a wonded fish.
I have caught up to 12 pound Brown Trout doing this out of strerams.
Mister Twisters work good also white in the winter and black in the summer and green when the hoppers are out.
If you ever make it to Vernon County Wisconsin look me up and I will put you on to some nice trout. I used to do some guideing here and have a good steam 300yards from the house and the West Fork of the Kickapoo 2 miles from my place.

I like to fish for brown trouts. they taste real good. but i don't like to touch worms.
