all a personal preference.a skinner doesnt really need a gut hook.the gut hook is for field dressing.your better off with a rounded blade poit so you cut cut through the hide by accident. I would check out a fur trapping store/site

Help! Anyone have a skinning knife they can't live without? Would love to find one with a gut hook that really worked. Price is no object. THANKS!

when you say skinning knife, do you mean a field dressing knife? the knife you're going to use to dress out your game?
Reason I ask is because skinning knives don't require a gut hook.

Clarification

Thanks for the responses. I don't necessarily "field" dress the deer. I shoot the animal on my property. Haul it back to the barn, hoist it over a lined trash barrel, gut, skin and butcher it.
