Hunting tradition to me means sharing a good hunt in whatever style you choose. I've done tailgate noon lunches, heating snow coffee at 5* outside in late season archery in the UP of Michigan. I'll take these hunts over watching any video every time. Also, many times a one horn spike was the camp trophy! Memories are what count. I really don't watch too many tv shows as in my view doesn't represent the norm, you and I, day in and day out. I wouldn't mind being in their shoes sometimes but not happening for me. As we have said many times here, a trophy is what you decide to make it!

ronn, what you describe is what hunting camp is every year for me and its what makes hunting so enjoyable. The only difference is generally its the same group we just catch up on stories over the past year. Sometimes I only see my buddies one week out of the year.

Another reason for the youth shortage in hunting is electronic games, kids don't want to get out of the house anymore. Sports also has taken away hunting/fishing, with the kids not allowed to miss practice or can't play if they go on a hunting /fishing trip. I see very few to none youth hunting in PA anymore, used to be the woods was full of them.

All good posts, we have to be content doing whatever our budget allows. I have been very lucky in my hunting life, spending a couple of weeks chasing deer, with family and great friends, all on a low budget. I could go maybe, saving for two years, on a trophy deer hunt, but I would have to give up something and right now friends mean more than antlers. That's subject to change:w00t:
