I was watching Jay Gregories show(Hunting expert lol) and theres a buck under his tree. They then pan the camera and he has two machines in his tree that suck up his scent and i burst out laughing. He goes on to tell people about this ozonic machine nonsense. I could care less whether they work or not this is not hunting and i truly feel we are losing the pure joy of hunting and what its all about. My god these guys already basically hunt on petting farms now they need these stupid contraptions.Complete Joke:lol:

:goodposting:I'm with you Spiker, way too much junk out there for huntin' anymore. I've gotten to the point where I don't even watch those people (pro hunters??!!??LOLOLOL) anymore. I realize that some of them are good at what they do, but for the most part I think that they are way better at self promotion. Good example, last year Bill Jordan and his entourage hunted for a whole week just a few miles from where I hunt in south Illinois. Looked like a small invasion force, but bottom line is they killed nothin' all week. Makes a big difference when they hunt the same ground that the average guy gets to hunt. But back to your original deal, you are right, there are way too many gizmos out there.

what alot of people don't realize is that these supposed "hunting ranches" are becoming very very very widespread. They are EVERYWHERE. Heck here where I live, I only knew of one that is within 60 miles of me, but come to find out there's at LEAST 5 total.
You guys are exactly right when you say they are hunting on deer farms. I think it's stupid, but I have to admit, sometimes I do enjoy watching SOME of the shows. I like the drury boys and I believe they actually do real hunting- sometimes.
Jay Gregory talks too much. I don't mind his hunting, but yap yap yap yap yap.
the one I can't stand to watch is David Morse. Talk about an arrogant, egotistical human being. Sure on TV he looks harmless, but just by the way he talks to people on there I can tell he's a JERK in real life. He's a BIG time farm hunter. Heck he probably has 20-30, 180in bucks released the night before his BIG hunt the next day. LOL

Boy you hit that one Tator. I thought of starting on David Morse in my post but didn't feel like typing for an hour or getting lit up. I've watched that show several times and always the same crap, sit in a tree hotel and blaze deer that come out the same time every day in the same place, which would be that nice mowed and baited strip of ground. I will never understand that stuff.

In the bigger picture what can these deer mean to these guys.If u harvest the 20th buck u see that day, does that mean alot to you.I hunt my own little 25acres that i work hard to maintain, pattern the deer, and hunt hard it means something.I hope Hm chimes in here about some of his Pa hunts hunting all week getting one opportunity and making it happen.Buck or doe thats hunting and thats a REAL TROPHY!These guys wouldnt even wake up the next day after not seeing a deer.I think these shows strictly become killing.David Morse that whole tecomate thing is a millionaires club and thats all it is.It is the furthest thing from hunting there is.If one of you guys shot a 180 id probably drive to see it and these clowns see 5 or 10 in a week.Fred Barta was the only one ive seen hunt like an average guy but im sure they didnt like em because he made fun of all the gadgets.Sorry bout the length.

David Morse is no relation to me. Same last name but don't know him. I do have great times/memories from hunting/fishing trips to PA and Canada with close friends and family over the years. These were low budget trips but I can say they were worth millions in enjoyment and memories. I enjoy the prep work, the mind game, Chess Game as I have termed it, for rutting bucks. If I allowed someone else to do it for me then it isn't hunting anymore it's only shooting and I can do that at the range. There have been years that I had no shots in PA for 9 days of hunting then there are years when there are 5-6 shot oppertunities. There are no 180 class bucks in PA where I hunt, there might be in S. Ohio where I've started hunting with my son. We still do it ourselves and that's what matters most. Hunting guides work their butts off for their clients in open range hunting. Hunting farms are raising cattle deer and whomever wants to pay for that can, not me. There's a giant difference between hunting and farm getting, I'll settle for the hunting part. I don't want someone sitting in my stand telling me that's the buck we've been seeing all summer, he's a nice 8 pt we call him lucky because no one has taken him yet. He comes into the field right at 5:00pm every night like clock work. Don't shoot till I give you the signal. He's a 150 class and there is a premium cost if you take him. Not for me guys!

I hunt my own little 25acres
That's about 10 more acres than I have, but I still do my best to put one or two in the freezer every year. Some days I go out and see nuthin' at all, other days I see a buck, but he's not legal to shoot. And some days I go out just to spend a quiet afternoon alone with nature - and get surprised when an 8 pt shows up.

But that's why they call it hunting - you have some good days and you have some better days. But to me it's spending the time . . .

This thread seems to have three main points: the first, being about ridiculous equipment, the second about hunting "expert/professionals," and the third about hunting "farms". I think you guys hit the nail on the head with your responses to all three. My take: although there is lots of gimmicky junk out there whose main purpose is to seperate a hunter from his hard-earned cash, there are lots of gadgets that do have a place in hunting. For example, GPSs are great for safety and can help in quickly returning to that downed animal, etc. Personal locators and hand-held radios, again, are good safety tools in emergencies. Of course, each of us has to decide what we really need, can afford, and how to use this stuff in ethical ways.
As for the guys who make videos, I put them into three categories: the first is the guys who pioneered the idea. People like Gordon Eastman who just wanted to share their experiences during a day when the average hunter couldn't get to the places where hunting adventures took on a whole new level and meaning. The second group are the guys who want to sell something and who promote their products with vidoes that try to convince the rest of us that we really need to buy that product. The third group is made up of guys with big egos who want to prove that they are better hunters than the rest of us. Often these are the hunters (along with the second group) who hunt in game farms or lease large areas that are more-or-less groomed to produce big quality animals.
As for the big game "hunting" farms, I am totally against them. In Montana, several years ago, a strange coalition of hunters, non-hunters and anti-hunters got together (can you believe that?) to support, and pass a law making them illegal in this state.

Technology has been forced upon us from all sides. That said, when it comes to hunting you can be as basic as you chose to be... 30-30 Model 94, iron sights, no food plot, no fancy scent eliminators/buck bombs, no trail cams, just your wits against theirs. Being able to read the lay of the land, the wind and put yourself in the right place at the right time.

ive got to agree with the gadgets nonsense. that ozonics stuff is amazing, but i feel like the point of hunting is to be there and out smart your quarry. its about spending time in nature and not just seeing or killing deer but watching families of ***** dig in the leaves and the birds landing on limbs around you. its about solitude and thinking about whatever. your thoughts arent influenced by anyone. theres no nagging wife, no screaming kids, no mortgage bill. its the woods. and theyre not gonna be there forever. this country is growing. fast. so these pros need to start savoring the sentimental and basking in the glory of gods country because our kids may not get to enjoy it the way we have. they need to be more concerned with making memories and sharing them than with making money and promoting theyre newest products. that being said, i watch the heck out of hunting shows.

technology is everywhere...I don't think we can expect to keep it out of treestands. As far as ruining hunting goes, I don't believe anyone can ruin my hunting as long as I have land to hunt and the free will to do as I please. Everyone will do things differently, and some people need all the gagets (to make up for traditional hunting skills). lol.

If mentors do not take the kids out and show them the difference, it doesn't matter what crap is on TV. If a kid buys into what is on television, he is not getting the mentoring he should get.

Youngsters of the impressionable age, unless taken and shown and given the opportunity to hunt and enjoy the outdoors, ate not going to be watching outdoor programming. Why would they? They are going to be playing some kind of game I can't understand and trying to save up money to get something pierced or tatooed.
