Saturday October 20, 2012 will forever be stuck inside my head as i lost a good friend deep in the mountains. we hunted all day not seeing anything within shooting distance with the exception of one small bear (175 Pounds). I came out of the woods at about 7:15 pm to find a good friend of mine had shot a very nice bear on the other side of the property but had not tracked him yet. took a quarting to shot and penetrated about 19" watched him cross two ridges then lost him. we called in some friends with their bear dogs to track him down. keep in mind we didnt even attempt to start tracking until about 10:45PM going through the woods over ridge after ridge dogs dragging us the four of us had kind of split up two and two we heard screaming from a couple ridges over... shut the dogs up only to hear frantic calls for help. we ran hard and fast as we could to get there but by the time we did it was too late the world had lost a great man to a heart attack doing what he loved more than anything. after the deep mountain extraction the miles upon miles of running and all of the explaining to family members today will be the funeral for this great man. R.I.P. Timmy you will forever be missed.
to everyone else this was a huge wake up call to me. please stay safe in the woods and if hunting alone always keep some form of communication with you. you never know what can happen out there.
