re-hash home defense
Things are a bit slow so why don't we discuss your home defense weapon of choise and why. I have been seriously considering what system would be best for me at home. While the Kimber is loaded and close, I'm really thinking of taking my Rem 870 express mag and creating a tatical home defense system weapon, quality light, adj stock, green dot scope ect. It is in 12 ga 3" and loaded with #4 buck would make a real fighting machine if ever needed. What do you have/want????

870 under the bed, and a .40 caliber handgun next to it.
Right now have a cz 75 in 9mm with 14 round clip on my dresser and mini 14 with 30 round clip next to the bed. hopefully will be adding a light to mini soon. i have thought about adding an 870 as you mentioned.
a shot gun for home defence is hard to beat. its hard to mistake the sound of a shot guns slide closeing. as for if some one wants to push there luck i got the 44 mag loaded with shot shells. i realy dont want to risk the shotgun shels punching through the wall into my kids room, but i know the 44 w/ shot shells wont punch through the wall and it will mess up an intruders night.
Might want to read up on research done on over penetration in close quarter combat. Handguns have the most danger of penetrating several walls due to low velocity the bullets don't expand, the hollow point plugs up with material. .223 caliber rifles are great home defense because the high velocity cause bullets to expand violently. See threads on comments about ballistic tip bullets and what happens at close range at high velocity. Remington 870 set up as a home defense with #4 buckshot , along with a springfield xdm 40 cal with 17 rounds beside the bed with an old savage 22" double barrel with buck shot down stairs in the closet. And a Ruger p94 in 40 cal in the truck. Do you feel lucky punk ? Well do you ?

Just make sure the barrel is at least 1/4 inch beyond the legal limit, just for giggles and grins. #4 birdshot (from what I've read) will tear up any home intruder, but isn't supposed to penetrate drywall in most homes.
I keep my varmint gun -- .30 cal M1 carbine -- behind the bedroom door for varmints, 2 or 4 legged. Have a Springfield XD in .40 cal and a Model 1911 in .45 ACP nearby for backup.

Now that comment brings back memories of guard duty in Korea way back when. I had a Winchester 12-gauge pump with 00 buck for shells as my primary weapon when I heard a twig snap near my guard post. Working the slide, I spun around to face my "attacker" only to see the sergeant major turning a curious shade of pale with his hands high over his head. I guess he thought I was asleep at my post, only to find that I was quite awake. It's another fond memory of my days in uniform.

Besides my 130 pound Rottweiler, I've got my glock 21c (.45cal) loaded at all times and another 9mm glock ready to go too.
We all have our favorite guns for home defense, but how many still depend on the oldest deterrent of intrusions known to man, the dog. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying dogs should replace good armament, but it's awfully hard to beat a dog's senses, especially hearing, when it comes to knowing something is not right and coming your way, and after all, we can't defend ourselves unless we are first alerted :zzz:. Nothing beats a dog for that! I just can't imagine someone continuing an attempt to break into my house at night once Jake and Buddy who sleep by my bed start barking. In Montana, where an extremely high percentage of people own guns, an intruder would be suicidal :crazy: not to turn tale and get the hell out as fast as possible as soon as the barking started. Besides Redman and me, who else uses dogs to enhance the safety of their home?
i would, and i had a dog before i moved to were i am at now. and he was a geat dog. and it crushes me every time i see an old pic of him (buddy, a basset hound) with my son when buddy was a pup, and ethan (my son) was about 1year old. but when we had to move out of our apartment and buying trailer in a trailer park was all we could aford, and the old apartment was managed by a phyco who just happened to be my brothers mother in law. so we did not feel safe knowing she had a key to our place so the dog had to go. we gave him to a friend were he is verry happy. but i cant wait till i can aford a house on my own land, then i will have more than one dog.
I have a poodle -- not the kind of lapdog poodle everyone thinks about. My poodle weighs in at around 65-70 pounds. She's a great watchdog and is virtually invisible at night -- since she has black fur. About the only thing that you would see would be her white teeth right before she sinks them into your behind.

Check out Winchesters new PDX1 personal defense loads for shotguns.I purchased a box for my 12 gauge and 410.The 12 gauge has 3 00 buck followed up by a rifled deer slug,the 410 has 3 plated discs followed up by 12 plated bb's.
