its a good time but as good as deer???????????? no its great fun
It's pretty sweet just listening to the dogs work......

Shooting the rabbit is secondary.

any time you get to see a hunting dog work its great.
I was just going to start a thread on rabbit hunting when I seen this one. I am going down to my uncles in the morning to do some rabbit hunting. He is working some young dogs and it there may be a shower or 2 in the morning so I dont know how well we will do. I will post the results when I get back. Hopefully with a couple of pics of us holding rabbits.

As good as deer hunting? Naw not in my book. But still fun and like everyone else said seeing the dogs work is always a plus.
Rough day for rabbits.. Very wet and young dogs.. Out of the 4 of us hunting I was the only one that shot any.. Got 2.. 1 right after we got there and another right before we left..

My partner missed one at 5 feet in front of him with 2 shots.. :shocking:

congrats. ahh tn rabbits. brings me back to my youth. sounds like a good time. 5 ft is a toughter shot than 10yards. lucky he didn't hit them, do they make rabbitburger? whats the side by side?
Boito.. Got it and an el cheap .410 when I had an old trashed 30-06 that I traded at a local gun shop.

And yes 5 feet is tougher than 10 yds. Both of my shots were probably about 15 yds. Much rather have those type shots. The rabbit ran out of the thicket 10 feet or so from him and he assumed he was crossing the "road" (30 ft wide clearing) and he had plenty of time to take aim and shoot. As soon as he had his gun up the rabbit turned and ran right at him. Shot over his head 1st shot and then rabbit ran right back into thicket back toward the dogs. I think he was behind him on the 2nd shot. That is a tough shot to make.

I gotta show this to my wife! :w00t:
She complains about me having four beagles. My dogs will start getting back out next week, after the PA flintlock deer season is over.

Here's a couple of my dogs:

muzzle loading shotguns? i'm thinking about one for turkey hunting but an inline.
ronn,
Go with a traditional muzzleloader. They're more fun & no disadvantage at all. That gun I'm holding in the pic has also been my turkey gun for many years. It has been the demise of many turkeys.....never had one get away after I squeezed the trigger.

As soon as I can afford one, I plan to get a flint smoothbore to replace that percussion gun.
G
got to tell ya i do like the looks of the traditional better than the inline. looks alot like my old 54 cal tc renegade
Both guns in the pic are T/C New Englanders.
G
the new englander doesn't have a set trigger and has a simple trigger guard right? other than that its pretty much the same as the renegade?
Yea, single trigger & trigger guard to match. The New Englanders have round barrels & the Renegades have octagonal barrels. You can get smooth bore & rifled barrels for the New Englanders too.
G
something to look into. I haven't use black powder for a few years now or even a muzzle loader for a couple, I stick with the bow. last time i did use the front stuffer i used my savage ml with smokeless powder. much easier to clean. i'll look into the traditional shotgun.
