I have to go with the 357 for small game. I used to be a WLO in California, Desolation Valley was my beat and there I carried a 1911 45 ACP since there were Mountain Lions and Bear. There are lots of good calibers now on the market so as always it comes down to personal preference. I hunt deer with a TC in 44Mag. In the woods here you can carry (with a permit) while bow hunting but .22 through .38 would be illegal, while a 9mm is legal, go figure.
