I used a keller sight for many years as did a few of my friends. All of us have switched to pin sights. I see no advantage to the use of a pendulum sight over pin sights properly sighted in from your stand. Very few pundulem sights are even offer anymore. Pin sights probably out sell the pendulems 100-1, just my thoughts.
pendulum sights
any of you guys use pendulum sights? Do they work well and what brands are best? Thinking of switching to one to take the guess work out of estimating yardage from a treestand but i am always scared of changing things unless im sure its worth the change.

Save your money and learn your yardage. It really is not all that tough and will build your confidence in the stand as well as ability.:yes:
I use a "Carolina Foxfire fixed single pin", (see below) I tried a pendulum and couldn't hold accuracy with it, my shot patterns were erratic, then I switched to the fixed single pin. I started shooting much better.
Not everyone can shoot a single pin , they are just not capable of adapting from a multi-pin sight to a single BUT with practice and patience I'm sure you can see how a single pin has one big advantage over multi-pin sights, you dont have to ever wonder "Which Pin do I use"?
Whether the animal is at 10 yards or 40 yards you just draw back aim and release BUT you still have to be a good judge of distance.
I practice at 20, 30, and 40 yards but I always set up a 60 yard target as well and I can tell ya that I won't ever try killing an animal at 60 yds. But it's nice knowing I would be in the vitals if i tried. Good luck with whichever one you choose. :thumbup:

:wink::wink:Single pins are nice----very nice but keep in mind Bruce is a well seasoned hunter. A 3 pin multi sight would be far better for most newcomers to the sport. 10, 20, 30 settings, as you improve you can change to 20, 30, 40. As Bruce has stated many times here on the board practice and time afield is by far the most important recipe for success.:wink:

NOW, Imagine in your head there's a 20 yard target right behind it, Slowly take aim on the 20 yard target and notice what happens as you take aim.
You raised your arm and bow to align with the 20 yard target, that raises your (bow, pin and arrow) as well. same goes for 30 and 40 yard targets
BUT again I should stress that shooting a single pin (like wmi says) probably isnt the best way to enter the world or Archery.
And the long answer to your question is YES sometimes I can sense that I need to make adjustments to my shot like (shooting downhill or uphill or shooting in high winds)...

I use three pins 20,30,40. Even with these setting sometimes I sight in-between pins. As all has said practice will teach you best. I highly reccomend sighting in from the height you're going to be hunting from. A 3-D target will also help in getting the yardage estimates close.

I have used several different types of sites on my bow and pendulum sites are a good choice if you dont want the hassel of guessing. I have used pin sites and they are also very good, but you do have to somehow range your target. On the other hand I have used Keller, ABC-200, Predator, and right now am using Impact Archerys, All Terrain Pendulum site. I have never had any problems using any of these sites to bow hunt at any time, nor has anyone else that has actually used a pendulum site to hunt with. I think that the people that say pendulum sites are worthless are people that have never tried them and just dont like them because of all the hype people give them when they have never used one. If you want to try a pendulum, Buy One! If you dont like it, take it back and try a pin site.
