Experienced and accomplished old hunter here, but I have a question I was hoping I might get some good responses to. So here goes...

Years back I acquired a Traditions Panther .50 cal muzzleloader for cheap on a trade. However I did not get an owner's manual for it, and I have no idea where to start as a minimal load for this gun. The previous owner simply told me that it shot well with about 50 grains of powder (Black powder or Pyrodex I don't know), and a .50 cal round ball with a treated patch.

Does anyone know where I can find a load chart and power / primer recommendations for safely shooting this weapon? I have tried Traditions page but the manuals there seem to be either generic or for other model guns or caliber's.

Thanks in advance for any responses.

Greetings Joeb99362, Welcome to the Club.

If you tried The Traditions Firearms website and your manual wasn't listed there, Just drop them an email and I'm sure they will get it out to you quickly.

here's a copy and paste from the Traditions website...

If you are having problems with the Owners manual/download process Traditions will send you a hard copy of the specific instruction manual. Send your request by e-mail: [email protected]

Good Luck...

Thanks Bruce.

I have been on their site for the last 2 hours reading through many manuals, but none of them see to be specifically for the Panther .50 cal I own. I suppose I will shoot them off an email and see what I can get.

Call me an old perfectionist, and perhaps these concerns don't apply, but as a reloader I find I want to know the powder, primer, bullet, min/max load (pressure) rather than just "winging" it.

I contacted the guy I bought it from many years ago and he gave me some rough estimates of the loads he was using, but I still would like to look at the manual or hear from a person already using the gun before I go out and make some sort of fatal error.

Thanks for the advice! I am really looking forward to trying my hand at deer muzzleloading.

In the meantime If you're wanting to get some practice shooting time in,
You might want to give them a call and get some info right over the phone while you're waiting for the manual to arrive.

Again Good Luck to you....
