Congrats Turner, glad all worked out in the end. I'd like to see the wood they replaced if you don't mind placing a photo.
New rifle
It's taken a while, but I finally took "final" possession of my newest rifle, a Marlin 1895M (.450 Marlin). Marlin recently decided to stop producing the .450 Marlin and I found one at a great price online. I sent my check and the rifle arrived a couple weeks later.
Not Good! As soon as I opened the box, I noticed some very poor fitting of the butt stock to the receiver and tang. The forend looked terrible as well. To say I was not pleased would be an understatement. I called Marlin a few days later and voiced my displeasure with the wood on my NIB rifle and they finally told me to ship it to their repair facility, which I did on 25 May.
Well, the secretary walked into my office yesterday afternoon with a box maked "Marlin" and I'd finally gotten my new gun back. Of course I couldn't wait to open it and did, right here in my office. Much Better!! The stocks fit very well and both forearm and butt stock match pretty well. They had indeed replaced both with what they called "best fit and match available" and I have no reason to complain now.
They also "check breech and function at bench" and fixed a broken rear sight, which I had not asked them to do and was not their fault (broke in shipping to me, originally from dealer).
Two things learned by me; one is it's risky business to buy a NIB Marlin without first seeing and handling, due to some problems they seem to be having ramping up production now in Ilion, N.Y. And 2nd, Marlin/Remington did accomodate my concerns and stepped up and fixed what was wrong with the rifle.
Now, to scope it and head to the range!

Here's the gun with the new wood. Fit is excellent, even if the grain is not as nice as the first piece (butt stock only). It's not near as nice as the grain on my 1895 either. But it's not exactly a 2X4 either. I am pleased with what they did. :thumbup:
