I started a new plot last week on a new hunting place. I'm hoping to help out in the nutrition area by increasing the quality of food on this place. I planted 2.25 acres to a seed blend from Evolve Harvest. The property is 1500 acres along a river with no other cultivation on it. Also I have driven up the road about 5 miles and saw only one other crop planted. There are a lot of deer on this place, and I hope they don't overtake the plot too early. I think if they let it get established it will provide some good food through the growing/fawning months. I haven't been back out there since I planted it, but I will take some N fertilizer out there next week and check it out. I hope my planting method worked...I have never done it this way, but I have heard sometimes it works. In tilled sandy soil I broadcast the seed and fertilizer just before a good rain. Someone once called this "raining it in". I had planned on loading up the tractor, drill, and roller out and do it the right way, but this seemed like a much easier way. With the rain coming that day, I couldn't resist. I am anxious to see just what it looks like, and will post up the results of this unconventional planting when I see it.
