I have been wanting to go back to West TN and do some bow hunting but so far I have not had the chance. Next week is my fall break from UT so I will be going home to hunt but the problem is, I don't have a bow. My dad gave my bow to my young cousin who is getting into hunting. My dad uses a crossbow now and said I could have his older Browning bow....I like his bow but I still kind of want one that is purely "mine" to make sure it doesn't get sold or given away. That said , what would y'all recommend? I would like to get a full setup for about $250 or so....used bows would be fine by me as long as it is in good condition

I recently found a Hoyt ZR200 on craigslist for $125...seems like a good deal but there is most likely something wrong with the bow at that price.

a new bare bow cost from 400 - 1000.bows also loose value fast,go to the local pro shop they almost always have a rack of good used bows for sale most allready set up for hunting,since you will need some work itsbest to get it straight from the bow shop,support your localshop:thumbup:

First off, welcome to the bowhunting experience!

To the bow issue, a new bow does cost more than your price range. Especially if you're talking about a Hoyt or Matthews or any other big names.

I recently purchased a Hoyt Powerhawk on 9/12/09. It's been shooting great for me so far. It cost $560 and that includes the sight, quiver, stabilizer, and everything else you need to shoot.

I realize that that's out of your price range, but the bow by its self only cost like $450, so I would think that you could pick up a used one around the price you're looking at. I might be wrong, though. I'll try to do some research and get back to you with something more concrete.

I have been bowhunting for about 11 years and love it. I first started off with a Browning Micro Midas that my dad bought me to learn with. Once I outgrew it, my dad paid for 1/2 of my next bow...a PSE Nova. My highest price range is about $350 and I have seen several Ready to Shoot packages from PSE, Bear, Buckmasters, etc but not really sure what ones would be the most durable, quietest, consistent, etc...I would like to get a Matthews or top of the line Browning in my lifetime, but I don't see paying $800+ for a bow. I might change my tune if I ever got the chance to use one but at the moment it isn't even possible to think about that.

Wow. 11 years. Sorry for thinking that you're new to this. Well I really don't know all that much about the different companies and their records when it comes to your kind of criteria. Or any criteria. I know that I sound stupid and shouldn't really be posting on this if I don't know much, but I'm just happy to try my best to help out. Um......... The best I could do for you, since I don't have any experience with any other bows than my and my friend's Hoyts, is research some and you could do that on your own.

I'm new to bowhunting and shooting bows and everything. So I'm not a big help when it comes to advice on which bows to shoot or anything like that since I don't have any experience shooting many, but I will tell you this: I absolutely love my Hoyt Powerhawk and how it shoots. It's the only bow I've ever shot extensively, so that's completely biased, but it does shoot well, very consistent. Ten minutes ago I split an arrow in half. Split the knock in half and have shaft in shaft. Pretty sweet. At thirty yards, and I've only been shooting a month. AWESOME!

The best advice I could give you is to head to a dealership that has some experienced, honest people that will tell you the truth about the bows instead of trying to sell you the most expensive one they can. Try out all the kinds of bows and see which one suits you best. It's all about preference really. I like to say that there aren't really any super bad bows, just bad archers. That may not be true, but it's what I like to say. LOL. Well good luck with the choices and all that. Hope you get a bow that fits your liking for your price. Good luck!:thumbup:

Joel has said it best. I 100% agree that this is the best way to go. At my locate Mathews dealer he has at least a dozen great bows for sale from 250 to 600 fully rigged including arrows! There is no way you can beat such a deal. Plus everything has been gone over top to bottom. So what if the bow is a few seasons old.:yes::thumbup:
