Got her in trade and she came in yesterday. Custom .50cal Plains Rifle, 28" custom "no name or numbers" barrel with a 1:48 twist and deep groove rifling. L&R lock, sweet double set triggers. Stock is just amazing on it. Sorry that the pics don't do the rifle justice!

250gr Thor Concials @ 50 yards with 90gr American Pioneer 3f. Round balls are next on the list tomorrow!

nice rifle, awesome looking furniture.
That last pic is great, nice rifle that is a keeper....
FG it kinda has a leman/Hawken look to it. Very nice looking rifle, wood shows very well. Let me know when you get tired of it and don't scratch it.
Got that custom .50cal out to 110 yards today, had to move the target back a good deal as it was in the shade and impossible to see. Once i moved it into the full sun, the 3" dot was fairly easy to see even with my eyes.

I got the perfect load for the rifle it seems and this will be my elk load this September once i find what unit i am going to try for.

90gr Pyrodex RS, lubed wad, 250gr REAL. 110 yards

As you can see i am impacting low. I will buy a brass front sight and mod that one as i do have trouble seeing this front sight at times during different light times. Today the front sight looked perfect, most times it has a huge shiny glare which makes finding the action edge of the sight very tough. This one however is sighted in perfect for patched round balls so i will leave it for ronnyvoo shoots if i go this year, and for just fun round ball shooting.

I'll file the new brass front sight to be dead on @ 100 yards and then try 150 and see if i want to make any more adjustments.

A good day!

I'm waiting for FG to get tired of that rifle.
I don't blame you HM, what a great looking rifle and the wood is GORGEOUS!

Probably wont happen anytime soon LOL i have a good deal of times right now, along with more on the way once they get out of the shipping container. Accura Mountain rifle, Optima pistol and hopefully soon the Bergara BX11 in .270. CVA's first attemp at a bolt action rifle and supplied with an adjustable trigger for both weight and overtravel adjustment.

I even got a .50cal TC Renegade on my bench right now! I got it in yesterday and finished the wood on it today, got 2 coats of truoil on right now, browned all the steel trim. Only 18 more coats of truoil to go before i put it all together.

On side note, the lock was missing the screw that holds the hammer on. Called TC, they put in the order and said its free!!!

The downside... only an 8 week wait!

Went to dixie gun works and ordered it for under $10 with shipping. That was one expensive screw and i got no pleasure outta that one! LOL

FG, Your Custom sounds more like the Traditions Frontier Muzzleloader
the only difference is the Brass.

LOL no, my rifle is nothing like a traditions, completely custom made and high quality.

Kinda like comparing a Ferrari to a chevy impala

HM, after comparing the following, why wait? I think you'd be better off with the Traditions Frontier model if these are the type of features you're interested in.

FG's Custom? No name & no numbered 28" barrel has a 1:48 twist w/deep groove rifling, just like the Traditions Frontier Muzzleloader but Traditons sports an Octagon barrel.

Double set triggers just like Traditions.

wood furniture just like Traditions but Traditions only uses a "Select" hardwood.

F&G, your custom uses a standard classic L&R Model 2100P Lock (nothing custom about it) while Traditions uses a Custom Lock, with fully adjustable Lock & Double-Set trigger adjusments.

FG, I really do like the looks of your "custom" plains rifle but comparatively, I don't think it's even Close to Traditions Quality!
It's too bad we're so far away from each other, I'd really love to have a closer look at your plains rifle.. Custom or not.
Traditions frontier is a cheap gun plain and simple.

This rifle uses a Siler lock, they look very close to an L&R.

LOL now i know you are just talking some smack because if you honestly think traditions makes quality sidelocks, you must not have ever owned anything of high quality!

The Traditions Frontier rifle does have an affordable price but isn't cheap by any means.
FG, You Claimed in your original post your plains rifle had an L&R lock now you say it's a siler, I guess it's pretty safe to say at this point you don't even know what you bargained for, You got a no name barrel, a questionable Lock, and who knows what else you'll identify as time goes on.

Do you have any idea where this rifle was made or who it was made by? Any Guess? did the seller offer any valuable info on it's history? Who he got it from, how long they had it, how long he had it, etc etc etc....???
I thought it was an L&R at first until i did some research and found that its a Siler lock.

Why exactly are you acting the way you are bruce? I think you are being quite rude to be honest.

The traditions frontier is a cheap rifle dude, its an entry level gun and worth about $100 when they come up used.
FG, if i'm coming across as rude, I'm not trying to.. I really am interested in trying to determine what you managed to acquire, I do think it's a good looking rifle but I've seen several that look a lot like it, I only hope you got what you bargained for and wasn't taken over the coals, that's all.

The Traditions Frontier runs about 400-450 bucks New, if some shooters buy them and dont take care of what they own and end up letting them go at bargain prices then that's good news for the buyers, Especially if they're buying "any" used traditions weapon.
I understand, I just took some more pictures. Its 100% custom made. It looks like the barrel was cut down as well from some of the marks at the muzzle. No one took me over the coals, this is a remarkable custom built muzzy and NOTHING on the market looks like it.

I got a good story when i was asking some folks about the style, its styled after a Tennessee rifle but altered to look like an 1840 model thats been cut down " barrel and stock" and the flintlock replaced with the modern percussion system. Check out the tennessee rifle " no not the poorly designed traditions model LOL" and you'll see it. Parts such as the rear sight, trigger guard as well as the pinned barrel i was able to find on the TOW website with were in fact for a Tennessee rifle.

If Traditions is charging that much for the Frontier, they must not want to sell many. The Lyman Great Plains rifle can be bought for $389 and is 100x better quality.
