Every sense I saw one of these at a gunshop I have wondered how they perform at the range. I have recommended them to several people but I haven't heard back from them yet. At the price point that they are selling for I personally can't see anyone buying the entry level Remington 710 or 770. I know a friend who bought a couple of the entry level Mossbergs for his boys. Again I have to wonder if the Marlin would not have been a better choice. For all intensive purposes I think they are the same as a Savage 200, only they have a version of the accu-trigger in the Marlin.

I have no range experience with them but I've handled them. The Marlin XL7's are nice rifles. Smooth bolt, easy to operate the safety. I didn't get to test the trigger but I assume that's good as well. I own the Stevens 200 and that's a great rifle also. Accuracy is awesome, fit and finish is good, the action is the tried and true Savage 110, and the trigger is alright. I've heard the Mossberg 4x4's have a weaker action so I personally would rather have the Marlin or the Stevens.

No personal experience, but have a friend whose father-in-law has one and loves it. Says it out-shoots his Weatherbys!

Bought an xs-7 in 7mm-08 for my 9yo son's use.
He's on the small size, but our lease has shots to 400yds from some stands so I wanted a bit more range/energy than a .243 [not that I'd let him take a shot that far yet].
Put a Sightron Big Sky scope on it and it groups well at 200yds, lightweight with minimal recoil.
In fact, I use it instead of my 700BDL in .30-06 whenever he isnt with me.
Cant beat this combo for the price point- the Sightron is real close to the Leupold VXIII on my rifle.
I can only tell a difference at absolutely last light...
