Over the years we've targeted Nov 4-12 as prime rut, this may change slightly but it stays pretty close each year in PA. Bow season just happens to end around Nov 13/14, we try to schedule vacations for this time period.
hunting man, i hunt in ohio, on the river just west of pittsburgh, i know the rut can very slightly year to year but early nov. is usually when you see the rut? i tried to pin it down last season but didn't see obvious sign consistently. thanks!
deputydog, I hunt in north/central PA, pre-rut is just prior to Holloween. Then in Nov around the 6-12 is when we see rut activity. Like all the posts here, a small swing either way can take place mostly weather related. Buy the first day after Thanksgiving, which is opening day of rifle season some of the bucks necks have started to reduce in size indicating the rut is slowing down and also the bucks are starting to lose some pre-rut weight.
