What type 30/30 is it? If it's a typical lever action 30/30 there are some things you will need to practice doing with it to be safe and comfortable with it. Depending on it's age, that L/A may or may not have a cross bolt safety on it. If it's an older rifle, it will not have that addition and you will need to be familiar with loading, unloading and using the half-cock safety it has.
Make sure your Dad shows you these important features and how best for you to load, carry and ready it to fire at both targets and game. Next step will be to become familiar with it at the range and try to get a good number of practice rounds through it, so you are sure it's sighted in properly and you are familiar with where it shoots at specific ranges.
Does it have a scope? If so, you'll need to ensure that you get proper eye relief set so you have no problems with recoil and the scope possibly hitting your forehead when you fire it. These are all things you will be able to learn from your Dad and enjoy doing. Use caution and remember safety is always the most important factor when both shooting and hunting.
One last thing; safety always begins between the ears! It is very important that the way you handle, load, unload and fire that rifle is always done in a safe manner. There are no do-overs after a trigger is pulled, whether accidentally or on purpose.
