I have to hunt by myself quite a bit. Remember safety first. All the time. Make sure your telling folks where your going to be. If you have a cell phone signal in the woods your hunting be sure you got a good battery in case something happens. If your leery about hunting out of a treestand just hunt off the ground when your by yourself.

Im also a little uncomfortable about hunting alone but I have noticed that I seen more deer when Im alone. Ever when the other person is 50 to 75 yards away I still have better luck when nobody is out with me. I shot at two deer this year and both times I was by myself. But I do always take my cell phone. So I agree with the others tell family where your going and if ya have a cell then have it with you.

I also like hunting alone. I do not have a GPS but do carry a bic lighter in case I have an overnight stay in the woods. I fire could make the difference. Like Joel said carrying the cell phone in your pocket is key if you are in a tree stand. If you should fall then the cell phone is useless 15-20 ft away from you. Leaving a map as to your whereabouts is also key. Think safety, safety, safety and you should be all set. Don't worry about a deer charging you as they are not considered dangerous game. All animals in the woods are much more afraid of you. Hunting dangerous game requires a backup plan. I would not recommend grizzley, brown bear, elephant or cape buffalo hunting alone.

I think it's natural to feel uncomfortable when doing anything new to you. Like they said just be careful and take precautions the same a person would that is hiking, or boating alone. As time passes as with any other new adventures you will become more and more comfortable with it.
Just keep in mind never get too comfortable, and if I'm wrong and you don't become comfortable hunting alone then don't do it. After all it's supposed to be an enjoyable experience.
