its my opinion, and only an opinion, that the core areas aren't as clearly defined as in less forested parts of the country. Feeding areas are clearly defined, oak flats, beech groves, apple orchards, etc. bedding areas are not as clearly defined. with so much cover they can and do bed anywhere even in the feeding areas. there is nothing saying they will feed here today though. nothing stopping them from going to a different area to feed. big bucks, old school named ridge runners, cover some ground. even the pods of does will be here for a couple days, then gone for 3 to 7 days then back again. yea sometimes deer just stay in a spot but not often. I think they got the ridge runners named because from the top of a mountain its drop off this way or that and nearer the bottom is a long way away from the other drop off line. ya know what i mean. so it could be days, and often is, before they are back in an area. now add in factors like hunters bumping them this way and that. around the bottom of the mountain. like a trivial pursuit board they can go round and round the mountain or at any point cross over the top, this is a great spot for escape. i'd love to see a radio collared bucks travels here.
my trek of oh 1 3/4 miles in i believe will be worth it. multiple breaklines coming together. running water, which is a little scarce right now. heavy soft wood thicket, hare woods but i know for a fact the deer are using it, unhuntable. last year rubs and scrapes in there. this area is used for a reason and i'm sure it will be again this season. there is scat on the ground now. not looking forward to the walk in to check cameras being such a hump, especially in this heat and humidity, but i really can't wait to see what is in there.
hope i didn't divulge to much info on my core area seeing there are lurkers on the sight that may know where i am. not talking about my bud thats here, talking about maybe others.
i am seeing a few acorns, small ones, on the ground. for what thats worth.
