I just want to start by saying a big hello to all. I have been spending many hours looking over the posts on this site and I must compliment all the great people here that take their time to help all of us that need advice. I am a believer that when you learn from other it's a good idea to pass that info onto someone down the road who is learning too. I'm not an expert at deer hunting but I will help any one in any way I can.
I'm a California resident who wishes he was born and raised back east. I envy all of the members here that live in an area where you can use trail cameras and scout year round. Not that I can't scout year round here but the area I live in has a very poor mule deer population and is very dry and the terrain is steep. I had the opportunity to travel back to Virginia las year to hunt whitetails and I had a blast. I harvested two small bucks by blind luck, but boy did they taste great! I'm heading back again in about two weeks and I'm looking forward to this trip more than you know. Thanks again in advance for any information and tips that you offer up!!

Thanks to you all for the warm welcome. You all seem like a great bunch of hunters.
Well most of my relatives live in and around Bristol VA. I stayed with my aunt and uncle last year and hunted the area around the house in Damascus. I'm going crazy right now trying to scout over the internet. I've been looking at Google Earth and trying to figure out where I'm going to hunt. This year my hunting buddy is coming back with me and he is only going to stay for a few days and then flying home. Because of this I feel more pressure to hunt in an area that will give him more of a chance to make a shot. Last year was the first year hunting whitetail so I'm very green in this area. After my buddy heads home my wife and two boys are flying in to spend the rest of the week back with me and be there for Thanksgiving. My boys are going to hunt too, so I really want to get them on some deer. I hope to post some arial photos of the are I plan to hunt to see if any one here can give me tips and let me know if I'm thinking in the right direction.
