Hawken .50 lock

I'm a newbie here, and hope to be a good member. I live and hunt in the great woods of Wisconsin. I hunt when ever the time allows me to. I have a great son that love the woods as much as I do. I came here with a question about the hammer on a .50 TC lock assembly. I have four of these fine rifles and love them all. I am a little bit at a loss at not seeing this before. Two of the hammers have a v notch on the upper side of them where they make contact with the cap. I do not know why I did not see them before. Is there a special purpose for these notches? Would appreciate any feedback on this. Great hunting to all. It is not the kill, but the experience.

Releases the pressure, so the hammer doesn't blow back.

Seems to keep the caps from sticking in the hammer too.
thank you for the info. makes sense. will have to do that to my other ones. nozone
