I have repeatedly tried to grunt in a buck that has created a massive scrape close to my stand. I can get the deer to run behind me but he will not come out to the scrape. Taking all precautions as far as scent. Any advice?

May be an older deer. probably trying to wind you to get your scent. may have to move stand alittle or double up putting one person behind where deer is traveling

mdoughty, buckfever, GOOD POSTING! I'm with them. He may not smell YOU because of your scent precautions but he's most likely using the wind to smell another deer. In doing this he keeps out of sight in cover away from danger. When he doesn't see another deer they'll usually lose interest and move on. You will have to be in a "double down wind" situation where you position yourself to be behind the area where the buck will be while he thinks he's out of danger down wind of the scrape. Consider wind direction and thick cover areas. Deer will slip in and out of an area quickly and silently so be aware. GOOD LUCK.

With the grunt, I think Less is More. If you grunt and the deer is coming towards you then don't do it again. If he stops for a few minutes give it one or two more soft bumps but that's it. I've heard guys on a stand with those things tooting away like they're in a parade...

yeah it sounds like its time to try a new stand set up on the back door or wait on the winds to change & play that card? but i would set up 2 stands in that location just to be ready for anything the deer or weather throws at you! but i agree with the less is more in grunting & rattling.

just like rattling if you have there attention & there coming don't rattle again, if they lose interest then grunt or rattle again. but if there coming i just let them come.

my 0.2 cents worth minus 0.1! lol
