We traveled to Georgia a few weeks ago over the MLK holiday weekend for our fifth southern hog hunt and third at the same place in Wrightsville, Ga. We had another great time and best of all took another trophy hog in our group, the third hog over 250 pounds in three years. A friend of mine traveled down from Wisconsin to join us this year for his first ever hog hunt and boy was he glad he did.
He took the largest hog (a bit over 260 pounds) and made the trip another great one for our group (four hunters). I whacked one that went around 150, but his big boar was truly a great trophy. He's getting the head and skull done and is already planning on joining us again next year!
Here's a couple of pictures of big big boar, one where it dropped and another back at the camp where he let me pose with him for another picture with the big boar.(the lucky hunter is on the left and I'm on the right) The third picture shows the shield as the boar was skinned/caped. Some who may have never seen the heavy shield big boars have to protect their shoulders can perhaps get a good idea of it from this picture. This boar's shield was well over 1 inch thick, plus the hide. :shocking:
