so my wifes family does the kind of "secret santa" thing for christmas because her family is rather large. it never stays a secret very long, they always say who they chose anyway. well, my brother in law drew my name this year and i overheard him saying he wants to give me one of his ithaca model 37 shotguns as my gift. to say the least i was excited. one problem with it though, its a smoothbore(dont know if its the original barrel or not, he bought it used) and he says he cant hit the broad side of a barn from inside with slugs. its not a huge problem for me, but i was just wodering if anyone has any sites i could visit to find a rifled barrel for it. also, im trying to get ahold of him to find the serial number to figure out the date of maufacture.
as a side note, i did end up carrying his other shotgun(another model 37) for a day when i hunted a shotgun/muzzle loader only area, and man, those things are light! i dated it, and it was made in 1939. serial number 15XXX. it was the featherlite model, no vent rib, top of reciever was checkered and i believe it was the 26" barrel. didnt measure it. but i have to admit, these ithaca's are in my mind the nicest overall shotguns on the market.
