I hunt on 30 acres here in North Georgia which is mostly pasture with two horses in it. I would like to plant food plots in three areas near the creek. What can I plant for the deer that won't necessarily attract the horses?
If it's good pasture for the horses, it ought to attract the deer. What's around the farm? Any crops? My father in laws farm was sown in pasture for cows and all around it was set aside ground. That means fescue, which is good for nothing except holding the earth together. Deer fed in his fields all the time. If you have crops around, you'll have a hard time with food plots.
There are no crops around, mostly forest. The area is a natural funnel through the land. I harvested a nice 8 pointer and a nice 10 pointer in the 2008 season. Both racks are nicely shaped but I would like to suppliment their diet to try to build more mass. I have already put in mineral licks.
