Well I just acquired some land out in Green County Indiana, This parcel is in a classified Forrest program for trees for our next generation. Question Is, I am looking to put a food plot or something that would provide food for the deer.
The classified program i am in is really not bad I can cut 1 acre out per 20 acres to put in a food plot. With my forester's permission. Let me give you an idea of the lay out. There is 30 acres surownded by 1000s of acres of country. There are many types of trees, from a mixed oak and hickory stand on the south west, and a sassafras stand and a tulip poplar stand to the east. And It has a 140 foot slop from south to the north. with a few areas to the east that are flat, and 1 area that is closer to the oaks. I have many pictures of the property.
What I really want to know is if i do cut out a area for a food plot what should i plant? I have a tiller i have a 4 wheeler. The soil is best described as a SILT LOAM EBAL-WELLSTON LOAM {EfD2} and {GbE} GILPIN-EBAL silt loam. And Hickory loam{HeG} I wish I knew my soils better.
My neiber has corn that he cuts down before deer season. I have a creek in the middle so no problem with water.
Now Should i focus on 1 seed or many different types of seed?? It is almost february, It might be to late for some seed, I really do not know.
I know I am asking alot But any info will help. I have a medium budget. And I am defiantly wanting to impove this property for deer hunting.
CAN ANYBODY GIVE ME SOME HINTS. THIS IS A NEW THING FOR ME I AM BASICALLY CLUELESS. I sure would appreciate your time in just reading this. THaNks
