First thing saturday morning I found myself looking through the fog into the grass creek bed between two wheat fields. As soon as it got light enough to see I could pick out forms moving around about 200yards in front of me. I continued to watch as some small ones moved up the hill toward the beding area, and a couple larger deer kept staying close to each other. Unexpectedly the two big deer crashed together and began fighting with an intensity that is hard to describe. I wish I could have seen better, but I could tell that these two mature bucks were gettin after it! Throwing up dirt, snorting...it was awesome. I have never seen that before, and that pretty much made my season!

It was incredible...I watched them as they were pushing back and forth, round and round and one even lost his footing and was driven into the ground by the other. He quickly recovered and continued the even match with the other. They made their way behind a small hill, and I thought that the one that won would make his way back to the does that were still up on the hill. I never saw either buck after they went behind the hill. I guess I should have takent the shot while they were in range, but I really just wanted to watch for a while. Maybe one of them will be back, as I am sure either would make a great trophy for me.

Yup I've never seen it myself but I have been close enough to hear it happening once.

well, this was the second time I had ever been on this place...first time hunting. I didn't know what to expect, and certainly didn't expect to see something like this. I have done more traveling around and checking my backup spots this year as my main hunting area kinda sucks this year. It has made me change my hunting strategies a little and forced me to do things outside of my normal hunting skillz.

lol...That reminds me of hunting public land in missouri when I lived there. I called in way more hunters than deer! It is fun to sit in the stand and watch them sneak up...some of them would go right down the deer trail and not notice me up in the tree. I let one of them walk by twice before having to reveal myself. lol
