Setting up on a fields edge is a very great technique. Sounds weird but be upwind with the wind blowing into the field because a coyote will always approach from downwind even if it means prancing across a field. That will also allow you to see an approacher and give you the time for a shot. Just remember that it will smell you and bolt unless you get a good, solid shooting opportunity before that.
