Where I live we can buy bottled water sold through the name of Ice Mountain. They also sell water in a 3 liter cylindrical jug. I have found this jug will tolerate the freeze, thaw and refreeze cycle without bursting. It also is the perfect size and shape to fit within the body cavity of a freshly harvested deer.

I used 2 of them Sunday night and they were great. I used some of the water that had melted to wash out the cavity before dragging it into the garage. other then that they hadnt leaked or cracks as milk jugs are prone to do.

You could do that, it sure beats spending 5.00-6.00 at the filling station though.
