While squirrle hunting with a friend we had a deer pass within 4 yards of us. I told him it was to bad we didn't have a deer tag, for I could kill the deer with my 22. He told me I was crazy. I tried to tell him if yo hit it the eye, it would go down like a sack of potatoes. Can anyone tell me which os us is right? thanks, john

Everything the guys have said is true. Even if it might be legal in some places, it's not ethical in my opinion also.
Take a look at my new post on "A Bear with a Twenty-two".

I not meaningly hit a deer in the eye with my bow, i dont knwo what the heck hapened. I must have flinched or something, but it definitly did not suffer, dropped right there. I was shocked when i walked up to it and it was through its head. I thought i actually made a good heart shot or something and dropped it. Kinda made me feel bad but at least i got a deer i guess.

I just made a 140 yard shot in the brush with my 30-06 on a small buck. I knew I hit back a bit so I went back to the house and grabbed my light and switched guns to my henry 22 lever action. I tracked blood til I saw 2 eyes in the darkness about 20 yards from me. I cocked it and fired. I poped it between the eyes and he dropped. Thats my first 22. deer kill and it proves it possible. I wouldn't recomend it, I only did it because I knew that if I brought my 30-06 out and started shooting @ dark the local game warden would be ticked. A 22 will kill a deer in the head but I wouldn't shoot passed 20 yards. aim behind the eyes, in the ear, or just below the ear and they will die.

Let's put this one to rest

If you use a 22LR on deer, I hope you get caught. If you are that unethical with disregard for the laws, you are most likely an unsafe hunter.

Used a 22LR for decades for butchering 2 to 3 year old beef steers. It was the weapon of choice for the Mob. Point, a 22LR is deadly and not a toy.

Let's put this one to rest.
