was he thin in body weight??? If so I would say he didn't have a lot of nutrients to hold the antlers on...or sometimes when a buck gets very stressed out that causes an early antler shed...my grandpa shot a buck once who was very poor in body condition and the impact of the shot knocked BOTH antlers offthank yall very much......you can see where the front leg was infected....we couldnt even eat the shoulder on that side. his collar bone was popped out. he was limping bad when he came out. i forgot to tell yall when i picked up the right antler to drag him out it popped out!!....it didnt brake off but it like came clean out.....like when they shed them. not really sure what caused it.........
