I have been using Hornaday 12ga sabots for the last two years and i'm not very impressed with them. I know there is some shooter error but i have had other guys shoot my gun and they are just not close enough for me. I think they are too light. I have looked for different slugs and have found some like the winchester supremes and others. I just dont want to spend money on slugs to sight my gun in and then not hold a good pattern with them. What do you suggest i try?

I shoot the Hornady SST's out of my Savage and Marlin bolt action slug guns and they shoot great even at 150 yards w/ 3" groups. My buddies tried them w/ their 870 also w/ a rifled barrel and the other shoots a Browning and they can not group the SST's at all. It must be the rifling in the barrel, but for the extra money the SST's are worth it to me. The last 2 years I've only needed 3 slugs at the range and these shoot great w/ both my set ups.

i think the difference is your guns, being built for slugs, have a better trigger. the others were built for shot shell with slug barrels installed. this is the biggest issue i have with slug guns or should i say shot guns shooting slugs. i know the 870 trigger is pretty nasty compared to a rifle and my mossberg is even worse. just a thought

Whether to spend the $

I used sst hornadays until last season, and switched over to 385 grain winchester partition gold sabots. They kick pretty good, but I can 3" groups at 100 yards. They are hold most of there weight even after impact. Very good dropping power.

Winchester Super-X 2 3/4" slugs XRS12

I sighted in my shotgun again today for this slug. I firsst started by shooting at 0.75" to the right and 1" low, adjusted my scope and shoot another round at 0.75" to the left and 1" high, did half way back and got into the bulls eye (a tad from the geometric center, but still completely in the eye).

Then I took it to 100" and shot at 9" ring. I did not want any firther adjustments (to save ammo), but I believe SuperX were good for my Mossberg 535 with rifled barrel (barrel/scope combo from Cabelas or Walmart).
